U.S. Army Announces America's Army 3[01.21.09]

The U.S. Army has announced the upcoming release of America's Army 3, a recruitment title that simulates the training and career advancement of Army soldiers.

America's Army 3 is the latest official upgrade for the America's Army series for Windows PC platforms, which originally debuted in 2002. The full version of America's Army is distributed for free on the Internet and through U.S. Army recruitment centers.

The original title has since spawned the spinoff titles America's Army: Rise of a Soldier and America's Army: True Soldiers for consoles, as well as numerous upgrades for the core PC release.

The series features authentic Army weapons and technology, and includes Army-realistic training and objectives. America's Army 3 will use Unreal Engine 3 technology, and will be regularly updated with new missions and features, many of which come at the request of the America's Army online player community.

"In [America's Army 3] we've taken all of the best features in AA2, incorporated feedback from the AA community and added the latest technology to develop a high-tech game that can be customized by the player to create a much more detailed interactive experience," Michael Bode, executive producer of America's Army. "One of our key design philosophies is to make the game easily accessible to a new player, while at the same time keeping a deeper layer of complexity for the more advanced players to discover and take advantage of."

America's Army 3 will be rated T for Teen by the Entertainment Software Rating Board, and will be released in 2009.
